Flight Training General

If you are at least 15 years old and medically fit enough to hold a drivers licence, than you pretty much have all you need! Ultralight / Gyroplane fliers are the recreational part of the flying spectrum, and the cockpit controls may not be nearly as complex and demanding as some other types of aircraft. Once you've learned the basics of flying it`s easy to adjust to another type.
You`ll need minimum 20 hours flight time, and mainly theorie-home studying to gain your licence in 3-axis controlled aircraft, and Gyroplanes.
We use modern training aircraft, like the Tecnam P92 Echo, and the German designed, fully Certified Auto-Gyro MT 03.
After you successfully finished your flight training, and be a member of the RA-Aus 3-axis or ASRA for Gyro's, you`ll get the basic licence, which allows you to fly within 25 NM.
Once you got your basic licence, you can apply for X-country endorsement, radio endorsement, and passenger endorsement.
We offer full weeks training courses, or on arrangement.

Professional flight Training with full-time Instructors, like CFI Willi Ewig and Flight Instructor Mick Riddle. Both have logged thousands of hours in Aviation with a full understanding of the student needs.

There are 3 active runways at the SkyRanch for "bush flying". We do fly to Gunnedah Aerodrome for advanced training as well.

At our Satellite facility, operated by Mick Riddle, we operate from Kempsey, Taree and Sth. Grafton Airport.

Gyroplane Training

Like any aircraft, proper training is required before you can safely enjoy flying the MT-03 autogyro. Learning to fly the MT-03 will put a huge grin on your face, and you will be amazed at how quickly you become proficient at handling this fantastic aircraft.

Gyro training used to be hard work - students would typically start by flying in their Instructor's 2-seat machine before completing their training on their own single-seat machine - it was like having to learn to fly twice, only the second time you were on your own!  With the MT-03 all that has changed - not only is the MT-03 a fantastically safe and stable training platform, but when the time comes to go solo your instructor can just step out (though it's recommended that you land first!) and send you on your way.

Training can be carried out by any ASRA (Australian Sports Rotorcraft Association) authorized Gyroplane Instructor, like CFI Willi Ewig, who used to be the ASRA Training and Safety Manager.

The qualification required to fly your MT-03 is a ASRA pilots Certificate.  The precise requirements for this vary according to your qualifications when you start, but can be summarized as:

Ab-initio (no previous licence held):

Minimum 20 hours training under instruction, includes a min. of 15 hours dual, and a min. of 3 hours solo.  You will take a set of straightforward written exams.

Holders of fixed-wing or ultralight certificate :

Training requirements are reduced to minimum 5 hours. Usually it takes about 10 to 15 hours for the Conversion.

Full details of the requirements can be found in the ASRA's Ops Manual.
